Natural Family Planning

for fertility awareness

Emma specialises in fertility support, is an accredited teacher of Natural Family Planning and a member of the Natural Family Planning Teachers’ Association (NFPTA). The association was established in 1984 to train people to teach the Sympto-Thermal Method of Natural Family Planning.

What is Natural Family Planning?

Natural Family Planning is a method of contraception where the individual monitors and records different fertility signals during their menstrual cycle to determine when they are most likely to get pregnant.

What is the Sympto-Thermal Method?

The Sympto-Thermal Method is a Fertility Awareness Based Method (FABM) that monitors the stages of fertility and infertility throughout each menstrual cycle, by tracking basal body temperature (BBT) and changes to cervical mucus. You do not need to have a regular cycle to benefit from this method, and even those that do will notice variations between cycles. The simple act of taking your temperature first thing each morning and recording the characteristics of your cervical mucus can paint a clear picture of these changes in your cycle.

How can Natural Family Planning help me to achieve pregnancy?

Natural Family Planning helps you to determine when you are most likely to conceive by helping you to recognise your body’s signs of fertility and infertility using the Sympto-Thermal Method. It is empowering to understand the ebb and flow of your body; to be active and dynamic in your unique journey to parenthood. This method is ideal for those seeking to support their fertility without the use of drugs and presents no physical side effects.

What does a natural family planning appointment with emma include?

  • how to recognise your body’s natural signs of fertility and infertility - cervical mucus and cervical position

  • how to support fertility naturally without the use of drugs

  • dietary changes to support natural fertility

  • herbal medicines to support fertility

  • self-massage to support fertility

  • charting your cycle - learning to interpret your chart to find your most and least fertile times and where problems might occur

Is Natural Family Planning only suitable for those seeking pregnancy?

No! Natural Family Planning is a valuable tool for anyone that menstruates. If you are tracking signs of fertility you are also at the same time tracking signs of infertility. This can be helpful for those who do not wish to become pregnant, either right now or at any point in the future, and choose to avoid artificial or hormonal birth control.

There are also benefits to understanding your cycle outside the topic of fertility, such as knowing when to expect your period, or how your body changes and what it requires to function at its best.
