Herbal Medicine

What is Herbal Medicine?

Herbal Medicine is the use of plants to restore optimum health. Diet and lifestyle are also taken into account during a consultation.

What kind of conditions can Herbal Medicine treat?

Herbal Medicine has something to offer most people. Common complaints that may be aided by Herbal Medicine are depression, insomnia, IBS, eczema, prostate problems, menopausal symptoms, PMS, stress, and anxiety.

What can I expect at a consultation?

The initial consultation lasts 1 hour.  Emma will take a detailed history of your health, and discuss your diet and lifestyle. She will then offer advice about diet and lifestyle factors that may aid your condition. Herbs will be prescribed in the form of tincture (alcohol-based medicine) or tea (dried herbs), and preparations such as cream, as required.

How often will I need to come back?

This is very individual and depends on you and your condition. Generally,  a repeat consultation will initially be required at 3 weekly intervals, decreasing in frequency as your condition improves. Repeat visits are to follow your progression, allowing changes to be made to the herbal prescription as appropriate.

Can I use Herbal Medicine if I am already taking prescribed medicine from my GP?

Absolutely.  Herbs and drugs may combine adversely, therefore your qualified herbalist will make every effort to ensure that your medicines do not interact.

Do you do any diagnostic testing?

I currently work with an Independent Laboratory and so am able to offer an extensive range of tests including those for nutritional deficiencies, food intolerances, hormonal imbalances, thyroid conditions, parasites and toxic substances such as heavy metals, pesticides and BPA. Diagnostic tests are priced individually.

What is the price?

The initial visit (1 hour) costs £50, and repeat visits  (30 minutes) cost £30.  Prescriptions cost an average of £7 per week for tinctures or £3 for teas.  Costs vary for other preparations.

Available for those in receipt of benefits and those with a low income. Please contact Emma to discuss any queries that you have.
